Lights Out Vegas

LAS VEGAS HIGH ROLLER isn’t rollin’

A saddening thought: Something so small, our naked eye can’t even see it, located across an ocean in a place I’m sure most Americans would have a hard time locating in a map would have such a profound and negative impact to somebody here in Las Vegas.

Just imagine a month ago a housekeeping staff of one of the big hotel casino happily making beds, creating towel art, neatly arranging miniature bath soaps and carefully lining up small shampoo and conditioner bottles for the guest bathrooms confident that putting in a good day’s work will guarantee her a paycheck to put food on the table, pay rent and maybe some leftover cash for a movie with her hubby.

Fast forward to today and this little thing from across the ocean is wrecking havoc here in the desert, ruining lives and livelihoods; and now picture our housekeeping staff member in line at the unemployment office, anxiety and uncertainty clearly evident in her face, future plans put on indefinite hold, a thousand things racing in her head. What just happened? Multiply this story tens of thousands and you realize how fragile our lives are, how intertwined and interlaced our existence is-and the end is not even in sight. Truly saddening. 😢

Even when I walk through the darkest “LAS VEGAS “ valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me. ~ Psalm 23:4
